As the YOU ARE project is over after 18 months, we reflect on the inspiring journey it has been, which empowered young people from Italy and Luxembourg to challenge gender stereotypes through artistic expression. From workshops on gender representation in public spaces to the creation of upcycled sculptures celebrating women’s achievements, the project has been a powerful testament to the role of art, inclusion, and sustainability in fostering social change.
Final Mobility to Luxembourg: Art Meets Community
In December 2024, a group of young participants from Italy and Luxembourg came together for a transnational youth mobility in Luxembourg. This final exchange experience was designed to connect physical and digital artistic works with local communities, reinforcing the project’s core themes of gender equality, sustainability, and civic engagement.
During this mobility, participants engaged in interactive art installations, discussions on women’s visibility in public spaces, and collaborative projects that merged digital storytelling with traditional sculpting techniques. The event provided a space for cross-cultural learning, where young artists could share their perspectives, experiences, and creative visions.

Closing Event at The Shaker: A Celebration of Women’s Representation
The culminating moment of the YOU ARE project took place at The Shaker by Wecitizen in Luxembourg, where an exhibition of the sculptures created throughout the project was showcased. This event was more than just an art exhibition—it was a call to action for gender equality and sustainability in public art.
The showcased statues, made entirely from upcycled materials, symbolized the revival of women’s stories that have been overlooked in public discourse. Each sculpture was dedicated to an influential female figure, bringing visibility to women’s contributions in culture, science, and society. Visitors were invited to engage in interactive storytelling, as the participants have been trained for and then realized podcasts about the life of women represented in their work arts, learn about the creative process behind the statues, and participate in discussions on the importance of diverse representation in public spaces.
The event at The Shaker also served as an opportunity to connect with local policymakers, artists, and activists, ensuring that the impact of the YOU ARE project continues beyond its official timeline. The young participants took center stage, sharing their artistic journeys and reflections on how the project shaped their views on gender, art, and community involvement.
Looking Ahead: A Legacy of Change
Though the YOU ARE project has reached its official end, its influence remains strong. The conversations ignited, the skills developed, and the relationships built will continue to inspire future artistic and civic initiatives. By redefining the role of women in public spaces and demonstrating the potential of art as a tool for change, this project has laid the groundwork for more inclusive and sustainable artistic expressions in Europe.
Stay connected with YOU ARE as we share more stories, reflections, and future initiatives that continue to foster active citizenship, creativity, and equality.
